About Me

Well I’m a pc/network officer for a council (approx 300 staff) which involves not only looking after the pc estate but also all of the server infrastructure as well (the operational IT staff count is pretty low).

The server estate mainly consists of NDS/Linux and Windows boxes. I Currently hold MCSA,MCDST,MCP,A+,ITIL v3 Foundation certifications and am also  Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS).

I’m currently studying for a VCP (VMware certified professional) I have already attended the compulsory course so just need to pass the exam now. Also in the long run I would like to be an MCSE and a CCA although at the minute as work is not Microsoft domain based there is no point going past the MCSA stage.

I am really addicted to studying (or at least keeping my skills up to date and learning new things) although as I am normally really busy outside of work I take abit longer to study than most other people.

I have also signed up to the OU (Open University) to study an academic course as well as the vendor specific ones that I am doing now. Not sure how I will get on with that but its worth a try.

There are quite a few certs I’d like to get under my belt including the MCSE as mentioned above (or maybe the 2008 equivilent) plus a Citrix qualification and a linux one too (not sure which linux exam to look at first). Anyway those would be long term goals as at the moment I am concerntrating on the VCP and starting the OU course.

Out of work stuff I like lots of loud heavy metal, I love watching Battlestar Galactica, The Unit, Ashes to Ashes (or anything with robots and lasers in). Apart from that I don’t watch TV that much. I play guitar a bit when I have the time, used to play a lot but now they are just glorified ornaments mostly.

I have 2 daughters a fiancé 9 Chickens, 5 cats and 7 fish.

Dale. Nice site. Very informative. Its clear that you know a lot! :) That said, I was wondering if you could offer some advice regarding an appropriate client for the ESXi4 (x64) ? … I’ve downloaded it in my lab and configured it very basically using the Remote CLi with no problem. However, I am unable to find a standalone VI client app to use for configuring VM’s! :( …. ANy suggestions that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dale. Keep up the good work! ~ Michael

    • Thank you for your kind words Michael, unfortunately I have not have the chance to play with vsphere yet (too busy doing the citrix thing) so I dont really know the answer. I’m sure however that if you contact KIWI_SI over at techhead.co.uk then he would know the answer.

      Regards
      Dale
